National park on a high plateau with billion year old rocks & the remains of early mining cultures.

Slide 1 of 4

This spectacular national park in the highest area of the Central West showcases the unique landscape and flora of high-altitude cerrado across 650 sq km of pristine beauty. With high waterfalls, raging canyons, natural swimming pools and oasis-like stands of wine palms, the park is a popular destination. The visitor center at the park entrance is 1km from São Jorge. You must enter by noon, and it's wise to get started early: there's a maximum capacity, plus the sun gets hot.

Amazing place! Gorgeous natural beauty, perfect for those who love waterfall, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors. The trails are well organized with arrows guiding you through the different paths. The entry is free, but you need to get there early before it reaches the maximum visitor allowed capacity.

We visited the park in October and took the Saltos trail. Overall the experience was great. When on the 80 m fall - unless you have vertigo - make sure to walk down to check the view of the 120 m fall from the top! Stunning! The complete trail has 11 km and we did it in under 6 hours. Some bits are hard work so take your time on the falls. Don’t forget food and water (and refil it on the falls)!

Amazing hikes views and waterfalls! This ppace is so entertaining especially if you're from the northern hemisphere, new plants and species you'd never encounter. I'm just sorry I couldn't spend more than 3 days there, we didn't have time time to see nearly enough. I'm definitely coming back.

Perfect! Everyone should visit this place! there's a magic atmosphere on air that I can't explain! It really amazing!

Nature is what the place has to offer, and it’s free. Don’t pay to watch the sunset from the boats. Not worth it. The boats (catamarã) won’t even move around the river. You can see and hear everything (sunset and the guy who plays Ravel’s Boléro in the saxofone) from land. Still beautiful to watch.

This place is really beautiful and charming Come by the sun set and you will by able to hear Ravel's Bolero The sound and the sight comes together and make it a magic place There are many shopping and eating There are bars and restaurants You can go on the boat to see the sun set

Boa Viagem Beach

Lively 7-mile stretch of sandy beach, with swimming only in areas protected by natural reefs.

Slide 1 of 7

It has an amazing beachfront with a bicycle path, many people working out, and surrounded by big buildings and skyscrapers. This shore is a wonderful place to chill!. You can enter the water but stand near to the shore, because if you pass beyond the corals, it can be dangerous, due to the shark’s presence.

During the day, the 8-km stretch of white sand and turquoise sea pulls in the tanned bods of volleyballers, swimmers and picnickers. At night, it’s still pretty packed thanks to special floodlights. After you shake the sand from your shoes, put on your dancing ones and hit the area’s lively clubs.

Stretching a little over four miles is the must-see Boa Viagem beach. Take a stroll alongside the natural reefs that the beach was named after. Marvel at the natural pools that form around the shoreline when the low tides come in.

Why not spend a carefree afternoon at Boa Viagem Beach during your travels in Recife?. Amble around the area's seaside or visit its shops.

Boa Viagem is an urban beach located in Recife. Unfortunately known for accidents with Sharks, it is a very good beach to spend the day, on the beach out of the water. If you go, go early, as the sun sets early on the beach due to the large buildings that hide the sun from 3 pm onwards.

So beautiful beach but take care with shark points signals ! Is true some sharks goes to the boarder looking for some food.

Slide 1 of 13

Address: Praca Comunidade Luso Brasileira, Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, BR Tel: +55 081 2121 0352 Located on the Praca Comunidade Luso Brasileira, in the Várzea area of the city and within the stunning medieval-style Forte de Sao Joao Batista do Brum, the Instituto Ricardo Brennand contains an important military / weaponry museum, along with an art gallery, extensive parkland and gardens, and a well-stocked library. This cultural institution was created in 2002 by wealthy businessman and keen collector Ricardo de Almeida Coimbra Brennand, and is called home by a series of outdoor sculptures and European paintings, including a selection of Dutch pieces from the 17th century. Open hours: Tuesday to Sunday - 13:00 to 17:00 Admission: charge

Ricardo Brennand, was a British descended Brazilian collector and businessman, who began to amass a collection of arms and armoury from all over the world in 1940. Much later, he grew interested in art and artefacts relating to Dutch colonial Brazil. In 2002, his collection was made into a fascinating museum in a Tudor-style castle complex of 77,000 square meters, surrounded by a 18,000 hectare...Read more

With over 19 acres (77603 m²), the Ricardo Brennand Institute is one of the most remarkable places in Recife. It has the São João Castle inside, with a lot of artworks and the biggest white gun collection of the World, most of them from Europe and Asia. The entrepreneur Ricardo Brennand idealized and invested to develop the place, which was inaugurated in 2002.

The Instituto Ricardo Brennand is a non-profit cultural institution owned and operated by art enthusiast Ricardo Brennand. The institution consists of an art gallery, library, a museum and a park dedicated to 17th-century Dutch collections from the Dutch rule in Brazil. As you stroll the building, you'll be amazed by the Tudor-style castle design.

Stately place for art and history exhibits The Ricardo Brennand Institute is a cultural institution located in the city of Recife, Brazil. It is a not-for-profit private organization, inaugurated in 2002 by the Brazilian collector and businessman Ricardo Brennand. Museum • Top attraction • History museum • Art museum

Instituto Ricardo Brennand is a museum in Recife whose collections attract sightseeing tourists from all over the world. The collections are impressive and of different combinations. Some are private and they include weapons, pictures, statues and sculptures among others.

Located just 6 miles away from central Recife, the Ricardo Brennand Institute consists of a museum, library, park, and an art gallery. Spread across 77,000 sq meters, the institute features world's largest collection of armory as well as other artifacts.

This scenic museum in Várzea, 11km west of central Recife, contains a huge collection of European and Brazilian art, swords, armor and historical artifacts, all set in fake medieval castles on lovely grounds....

Incredible museum by the Brazilian art collector and businessman Ricardo Brennand, one of the best I have visited apart from The Louvre in Paris. I recommend at least 3 hours to browse through all the buildings and some more time if you want to sit down for a coffee in the lovely Cafe or eat something in the restaurant. The Institute holds a permanent collection of historic and artistic objects of diversified provenience, ranging from Early Middle Ages to 20th century, with strong emphasis in objects, documents and artwork related to Colonial and Dutch Brazil, including the world's largest assemblage of paintings by Frans Post. The Institute also houses one of the largest collections of armory in the world, with 3,000 pieces, the majority of which were produced in Europe and Asia between the 14th and 19th centuries. The library has over 62 thousand volumes, ranging from 16th to 20th century, including a collection of brasiliana and other rare items.

Nice collection but completely unorganized in any thematic or chronological way. Even the main exhibition of Dutch presence in Brazil is mixed with random pieces of sculpture and porcelain. Most of the pieces lack information or they are too small printed. Even more shocking is the text praising the Dutch colonization as a positive thing. The collection needs a good and critical curatorship work to transform it in a Museum.

This is definitely one of the best museums in Brazil, probably the best outside Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. There is a wide variety of arts, from sculptures to painting, that cover different moments of history. The main exposition is about an important parte of Brazil, which is the Dutch occupation of the northeast, that happened in the 17th century. The building where the museum is gorgeous. The price (in Oct. 2020) is R$30, with half price for teachers and students. There is also a great restaurant there but it is quite expensive.

Flamengo Beach

Slide 1 of 3

Definitely worth the 45min drive, this beach is amazing. Food and drinks available directly at the beach, as well as restaurants with super clean toilets. Plenty of Uber cars to go back to Salvador.

Great beach, not so crowded, with fun waves. Recommended visit when in Salvador.

A very nice and clean beach

Basílica do Senhor do Bonfim

Church

Sights & Landmarks

Churches & Cathedrals

Stately 18th-century church located on a hill & known for its Hall of Miracles & body part replicas.

Slide 1 of 5

This famous 18th-century church, located a few kilometers north of Comércio on the Itapagipe Peninsula, is the source of the fitas (colored ribbons) you see everywhere in Salvador, a souvenir of the church and a symbol of Bahia itself. Bonfim's fame derives from its power to effect miraculous cures, making it a popular shrine.

Maybe you already know the ribbon of Bonfim, it is an icon in the Bahian city, but do you know where they come from?. Know the Basílica do Senhor do Bonfim. You can visit the basilica, the local museum or hang your prayer ribbons on the external bars of the place.

I really enjoyed busing this place. We did the 3 ties for 3 wishes. It was fun to explore this area a few vendors out front. Would say this Is a good place to visit, parking can be tough to find.

A must see during your visit to Salvador. A beautiful cathedral that captures the heart and soul of one of the oldest cities established in the new world. It’s local custom to tie ribbons at the gate in front of the church and say a prayer to the Holy Savior of the Bay of all Saints. Inside the cathedral and deep rooted in the Afro-Brazillian Candomblé traditions and the Catholic Ex-Voto, the afflicted offer wax casts in body parts to Saints as thanks or hope of healing them.

Quaint old church, with a beautiful view, much nicer interior than one would guess from the exterior (although exterior is done in rather charming gothic architecture), and a cute story of wishes granted for each of the knots tied with a ribbon at its fence. Make sure not to tie more than three knots, though, and of course - you can't say the wishes out loud. :) When will they come true? When the last of the knots gets undone and the ribbon falls off the fence...

Pelourinho

Sights & Landmarks

Neighborhoods

Cobblestone streets wind past open-air caipirinha bars, Afro-Bahian souvenir stores, and squares filled with musicians and dancers in historic Pelourinho. Colonial landmarks include Igreja e Convento de São Francisco and Catedral Basílica de Salvador, with their Portuguese tiles and intricate, gold-plated carvings. The Casa do Carnaval shows multimedia exhibits and costumed mannequins from the iconic street party.

Slide 1 of 1

The centerpiece of the Cidade Alta is the Pelourinho, a Unesco-declared World Heritage site of colorful colonial buildings and magnificent churches. As you wander the cobblestone streets, gazing up at the city’s oldest architecture, you’ll realize that the Pelô is not just for tourists. Cultural centers and schools of music, dance and capoeira pack these pastel-colored 17th- and 18th-century buildings.

Elevador Lacerda

Observation Decks & Towers

Historic art deco elevator with scenic views, connecting the upper & lower parts of Salvador.

Slide 1 of 4

Elevador Lacerda connects the upper and lower portions of Salvador. This famous elevator will carry you from one section to the other in 20 seconds. At 70 meters high, it is one of the highest and largest public lifts in the world, with space for 120 passengers.

Beautiful elevator with stunning views of the city. At just 15 cents, it is a very affordable way to get to the old city. The observation deck at the top gives you some of the best views in Salavador. It's also closely located to Mercado Modelo, which is convenient. With that said, make sure you don't have any flashy jewlery on you when you go up so you can stay safe.

It's very cheap at only R$0.15, and conveniently located. It facilitates a 10 minute walk from the ferry to Pelourinho or from Pelourinho to the market. There may be a bit of a line depending on the time of day that you visit. Can also get a bit hot during the day. There are stunning views from the top, a very popular photo op spot, as well as a famous ice cream shop help you beat the heat. Can't miss it on a visit to Salvador and I definitely recommend taking it at least once.

The history behind the construction is interesting, however it’s not a great place to go. Going up and down costs R$0,15 per visitor and the elevator is too crowded, hot as hell and smells sweat. Great view up there though.

Quarta Praia

Slide 1 of 5

Really liked it. Away from the crowds of the other beaches that are closer to the town centre you'll find a nice beach with very little amount of people (takes a while to get there as you can only get there by foot I think). Because of that, unfortunately this isn't an option for people with reduced mobility. There are a couple of bars that (I think) serve some food (although we didn't eat). Not a place to watch the sunset, best during the morning/day time (till 16:30-17:00)

The beach is beautiful, but for those who want bath or swim, it’s better to keep walking till the second half of the beach

Much quieter than in town. Worth walking here and sitting in the shade of the big trees after a splash.

Tranquil, white-sand beach known for its clear waters, sweeping views & secluded vibe.

Slide 1 of 3

To me, best beach on the island!

What a wonderful place! There are options for all kinds of tourists, but the calmest ones prevail. Clearest water I've ever seen. Avoid the crowds and rent the Volta a Ilha boat ride. The guys will ride away from the drunk crowds and get you to the calmest pools, quite far from the floating pub.

A paradise!! It's completely worth! Just go and enjoy the nature!!

Waterfalls

Slide 1 of 3

A great waterfall into a gigantic natural pool of Crystal water. The perfect place to start your vacation in Lençóis, Bahia

Great day trip. Fabulous time to spend a few hours, without the need for hire a guide. This is a private property and they charge R$10 per person in entrance but it's worth it as they have some convenience, rappelling as well as life guards and a restaurant and a souvenir store. Parking fee R$10. There are two waterfalls here and the last one is really beautiful and wide enough for you to swim up and climb into and behind the water flowing down!

This swimming hole and waterfall are a good place for all to visit. The walk to the site is steep in places and needs care. But the effort is worth it. The water is very brown due to vegetation but cool and pleasant. There is a great view down the canyon. This is a natural site so no toilets or changing but there is a cafe/tourists hope at the start of the trail that has toilets.
